Every Atom Of My Being
by Ashraf Mahmoud
Every atom of my being
Says wake up you are dreaming
Don’t spread the seeds of love
Because this world you are leaving
Every atom of my being
Takes me to a world unknown
To pray for your life and curse my own
To fly me on the wings of insanity
Eternally thrown
Left with my blind logic utterly alone
Every atom of my drifting heart
Comes million times apart
When life chooses the curtains to draw
To timely conclude my futility show
Every atom of my being
Asks me why the unthinkable
Turns to be my very sensible
With the glory I am after
To end like a joke
So stupid so laughable
Every atom of my being
Hates the life I am leading
Chokes through the air I am breathing
And the beats of a heart I am stealing
Each shred of my tormented soul
Finds no reason for life at all
But the mortals’ fates to control
To disperse our dreams like dust in a storm
When man like spring leaves
Bequeath the earth tokens of grief
The spring of our life wasted by the fall
When death comes to blow its ultimate call
When fire shrinks to ashes
Sinister pains dim their flashes
When my pieces come to naught
My mind still in second thought
To retain a shred of its dormant feeling
Across the life I have been concealing
But now with traces of vigour up to show
Before I consume my time and finally go
The last word I saved now ought to blow:
“My love for you I will never be conceding
Because without you, a remaining second
Is worth not keeping”
